System Boilers

Where as part of a Combi Boiler Installation you would have the hot water heated directly by the combi boiler, a System Boiler Installation (sometimes also called a conventional boiler, or a regular boiler) will heat your central heating system directly and produces hot water for your hot water cylinder, which is usually stored in your airing cupboard.

There are two types of system boiler, each with some slight differences

Sealed System Boiler

A sealed system boiler is a "closed loop" that operates at high pressure and has many heating components built directly into the boiler itself, allowing for an efficient installation. A hot water cylinder is required to provide hot water, but hot water is pumped from the sealed system boiler through the heating system, radiators and hot water cylinder to provide a prompt response and more economical running costs.

A sealed system boiler removes the need for feed and expansion tanks.

Open Vent System Boiler

An Open Vent System boiler has "vented" feed and expansion tanks, and your hot water cylinder will be fed by a large cold water sotrage tank in the loft.

This runs at lower pressure compared to a sealed system, and also uses a hot water cylinder to provide your hot water.
